NASA Langley Salutes Local Tuskegee Airmen at Movie Premiere
Four of the original African-American World War II Tuskegee Airmen are expected to attend the opening of the new George Lucas feature film, "Red Tails," at a local movie theatre this Friday, Jan. 20.
NASA's Langley Research Center has partnered with the Tidewater Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., the city of Hampton, Hampton University, the Virginia Air & Space Center and Cobb CineBistro to recognize the accomplishments of the famed aviators and other African Americans in a series of events through February's Black History Month.

First Light Star is installed on Hampton Christmas treeThe First Light Star that commemorates the first Christmas the English settlers spent with the Indians in Kecoughtan in 1608, was installed Friday on the new 50-foot tall Christmas tree at Peninsula Town Center.

Walkers should check in at 5 p.m. while an event with a band, food and balloons will be held from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. The walk will begin at 7 p.m....
Peninsula Town Center to Dedicate Marys Park on Saturday, September 17
HAMPTON, Va., August 31, 2011--Peninsula Town Center in Hampton will pay tribute to all area teachers by officially dedicating one of its two parks in honor of four renowned female educators, all with the same first name, on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 11 a.m.
Marys Park commemorates Mary Johnson, a Hampton teacher and civil rights leader who passed away in July at the age of 95; the late Mary Passage, who gave 31 years to the Newport News school system, which in 1965 made her the first female high school principal on the Peninsula; Mary Christian, a Hampton school teacher who rose to Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education at Hampton University before being elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1986; and Mary Peake, who taught children of former slaves who had sought refuge at Union-held Fort Monroe.
